Allied Health Insights Vol.01, No.10: The Allied Health Employee Lifecycle

If you are struggling to recruit allied health staff, then you are not alone. The employment market is tight in all sectors and in many countries, but the allied health professions have the dubious honour of filling several of the top 10 hardest to recruit roles in Australia, according to Seek.com.au. When workers are scarce, employers start to focus on their approaches to recruitment. If there is a lack of workforce supply, however, it could be too late to think about your recruitment approach.

In this week’s edition of Allied Health Insights, we’re examining the Allied Health Employee Lifecycle, and its critical importance to healthcare employers. We’ve identified six phases to the lifecycle: attraction, recruitment, onboarding, development, retention and separation—and in the coming weeks, we’ll be looking at these in detail.

Our A to Z of Allied Health instalment this week takes a close ‘look’ at the orthoptist profession. Where does the orthoptist fit in the allied health professional space, and what is their scope of treatment? We’ll answer these questions and more.
